The newly launched institute aims to improve patients' quality of life, provide life-sustaining dialysis, and assist in managing renal failure-related comorbidities, including critical care assistance.

Bengaluru-based cancer specialty hospital Cytecare has partnered with NGO Humanist Centre for Medicine, to launch a nephrology institute to treat renal failure or malfunction patients holistically and with vital medical care.

The aim of this partnership is to bridge financing gaps for patients seeking medical care.

As per the Pradhan Mantri National Dialysis Programme (PMNDP) estimates, each year, 2.2 Lakh people in India are diagnosed with end-stage renal disease (ESRD), resulting in a 3.4 Cr annual demand for dialysis. India now has about 4950 dialysis centres, the most of which are private, which only meet less than half of the demand.

The newly launched institute aims to improve patients' quality of life, provide life-sustaining dialysis, and assist in managing renal failure-related comorbidities, including critical care assistance.

Alongside clinical services, modern dialysis equipment are available at the institute, thereby offering a broad range of high-quality medical services under one roof.

'œWe are glad to partner with Humanist for this important public health initiative. While Cytecare has provided the space as well as clinical and management support for the institute, Humanist, along with its donors, has put in the capital for the procurement of the dialysis machines and the Reverse Osmosis water treatment plant required for the centre,' said Suresh Ramu, cofounder & CEO, Cytecare Hospitals.

Earlier, Cytecare partnered with Cloudphysician Healthcare and launched Smart ICU. It assists in round-the-clock management of critically sick patients through remote monitoring and improved support for internal teams of intensivists.

Cytecare nurses also launched a campaign to transform waste (non-infectious) to communicate about cancer. The nurses developed a model that demonstrates effective chest compression during Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).

Last year around the same time, Bugworks Research Inc. and Cytecare Cancer Hospitals announced collaboration to accelerate the development of cutting-edge immuno-oncology therapies. Following the collaboration, Bugworks - a US, India and Australia based start-up with globally recognised expertise in drug discovery, has set up a dedicated immuno-oncology ex vivo research lab at Cytecare.

Before that, in May 2018, the hospital had raised $31 million (around INR 210 Cr) in a Series A round of funding led by global investment bank Goldman Sachs.
