A key highlight was introducing a Deep Learning system specifically designed for training and evaluating neurosurgeons on intricate techniques, including micro-suturing, micro-drilling, and essential endoscopic skills crucial for impeccable hand-eye coordination.

In a significant development, AIIMS New Delhi and IIT Delhi joined forces to introduce an advanced deep-learning system focused on enhancing neurosurgery training.

The collaborative effort was revealed during the 16th IITD Open House program, with Prof Ashish Suri from AIIMS, Prof Prem Kumar Kalra, Prof Subodh Kumar, and Prof Chetan Arora from IIT Delhi at the helm.

The initiative, backed by Center of Excellence projects funded by DBT and ICMR, showcased an "Automatic Evaluation of Microscopic and Endoscopic Skills."

A key highlight was introducing a Deep Learning system specifically designed for training and evaluating neurosurgeons on intricate techniques, including micro-suturing, micro-drilling, and essential endoscopic skills crucial for impeccable hand-eye coordination.

Commenting on the collaborative effort, Prof M Srinivas, director of AIIMS New Delhi, said, "The collaboration between IIT Delhi and AIIMS through this project has yielded significant results in the automation of skills evaluation in microscopic and endoscopic neurosurgery training using computer vision and AI/ML."

Engaging with PhD students involved in the project, Prof Srinivas commended the initiative's potential to advance technology in medical education and training.

Sharing thoughts on the same, Dr Ramandeep Singh, the scientist at the neuro-engineering lab at AIIMS New Delhi said, “This technology enables the creation of highly realistic anatomical models, helping surgeons refine their skills in a controlled and repeatable environment.”

In related efforts to enhance medical services, AIIMS New Delhi has taken steps to improve emergency medical and surgical services. The initiative aims to ensure timely and quality medical attention for emergency patients by expediting admission or discharge based on medical requirements.

Furthermore, AIIMS New Delhi has implemented a centralised system for sample collection and electronic report distribution, streamlining diagnostic services for improved efficiency and patient convenience.

Additionally, in August, AIIMS New Delhi collaborated with Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University and introduced a Patient Grievance Redressal System, addressing patient feedback and concerns to enhance overall patient care.
