The initiative aims to increase access to primary healthcare at the grassroots level, with a particular focus on respiratory diseases.

In a significant move towards enhancing healthcare accessibility in rural Bengaluru, Haleon India, formerly known as GlaxoSmithKline Consumer Healthcare has joined forces with Sevamob, a healthcare-focused NGO, to introduce a primary healthcare mobile van at Hosekote, in Bengaluru.

Under this collaborative initiative, the primary healthcare mobile van will offer free medicines and rapid point-of-care blood tests based on doctor-prescribed needs.

The goal is to conduct 22+ free primary healthcare camps monthly across Bengaluru's rural districts. These camps, staffed by registered MBBS doctors and trained nurses, aim to provide essential health check-ups to approximately 80+ patients daily, ultimately reaching over 20,000 patients within the next year.

Commenting on the development, Shanu Saksena, head, CSR, Haleon India, said, "At Haleon, we strongly believe that every individual has the right to access quality healthcare. Bringing alive our purpose of delivering better everyday health with humanity, we are committed to giving back to society."

Program Launch & Objectives

The primary objective of the initiative is to increase access to primary healthcare services at the grassroots level, with a specific focus on identifying and addressing respiratory diseases. Haleon India will provide financial support for these camps as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative.

Shedding light on the initiative, Shelley Saxena, founder & CEO of Sevamob Ventures, said, "Through this program, we aim to bridge the gaps in healthcare services delivery and provide quality services at the grassroots to ensure healthcare for all."

Established in 2012, the Lucknow-based Sevamob Ventures utilises AI to manage diseases effectively. Their AI integrates deep learning, machine learning, and computer vision, operating offline in low-resource settings.

The Rising Trend of Healthcare on Wheels in India

This initiative aligns with the broader trend of leveraging technology in healthcare, as evidenced by the recent installation of a 5G-connected ambulance by Apollo Hospital in Bengaluru.

Equipped with advanced technology, the ambulance ensures real-time collaboration and remote guidance from specialists, facilitating critical decision-making during medical procedures.

Previously in November 2023, the Odisha government, in November 2023, announced plans to procure 70 ambulances. This fleet comprises 30 advanced life support (ALS) ambulances and 40 basic life support (BLS) ambulances, catering to various medical needs.

The versatile purpose of these newly introduced ambulances includes transporting patients receiving treatment through the Biju Swasthya Kalyan Yojana (BSKY), facilitating transfers to private hospitals, and deployment in correctional facilities, for VIPs, and at special events. This initiative aligns with the broader goal of improving healthcare accessibility and response time in the state.

Similarly, in September 2023, Kauvery Hospital in Bengaluru inaugurated the 'Kauvery Ambulance Responsive and Emergency Service' (KARES), underscoring the hospital's commitment to timely and efficient emergency response.

As part of this initiative, 15 state-of-the-art ambulances were introduced, strategically stationed within a 10 km radius of prime locations in the city. The primary objective is to serve a broader population, emphasising time-saving measures for a rapid response to medical emergencies. Furthermore, the initiative aims to achieve timely transportation to nearby hospital facilities, expediting diagnoses and minimising or preventing disabilities.

Similarly, in August 2023, ZENZO, a healthcare firm, introduced Mumbai's first-ever 5G ambulance service. The ambulance, equipped with life-saving equipment, ensures comprehensive and timely emergency care, showcasing the continued adoption of advanced healthcare solutions across regions.

The 5G ambulance seeks to achieve better treatment outcomes through immediate care and timely interventions. Further, it also supports patients through pre-arrival coordination, enabling hospitals to prepare in advance for necessary procedures and treatment protocols upon the patients' arrival.
