In a move to enhance the country’s healthcare ecosystem, PM Narendra Modi is scheduled to lay the foundation stone of a new All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Rewari, Haryana, today.

This marks the initiation of a series of inaugurations and dedications of AIIMS hospitals across various states over the next nine days.

Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya disclosed that the total expenditure incurred by the center for these seven hospitals surpasses INR 10,000 Cr. He said, "Till 2014, the nation had six AIIMS in seven decades, and in the next 10 days, the country will get seven AIIMS."

AIIMS-Rewari: The Latest Addition in AIIMS

Established under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY), AIIMS-Rewari aims to deliver comprehensive, high-quality tertiary-care health services to the people of Haryana. Its services will cover 18 specialties and 17 super specialties, including cardiology, gastroenterology, nephrology, and neurology.

The medical institute will offer a range of medical facilities, including a hospital complex with 720 beds, a medical college with 100 seats, a nursing college with 60 seats, and an AYUSH block with 30 beds.

Moreover, it will provide residential accommodation for faculty and staff, hostel facilities for students, a night shelter, and a guesthouse. Further, the institute will comprise 16 modular operation theaters, diagnostic laboratories, and a blood bank, enhancing its capacity to cater to diverse medical needs.

The AIIMS in Rewari, with an estimated cost of approximately INR 1,650 Cr, will occupy 203 acres of land in Majra Mustil Bhalkhi village. PM Modi's visit today will mark the commencement of this significant healthcare project.

Backstory: Addressing Challenges

The journey towards establishing AIIMS-Rewari faced hurdles, primarily concerning land acquisition. Initially proposed in Manethi village, the project encountered obstacles due to regulatory constraints. However, with proactive measures from both the central and state governments, a new site in Majra Mustil Bhalkhi village was identified and approved.

Health Minister Mandaviya emphasized the significance of this project, stating, "The AIIMS-Rewari shall improve healthcare facilities, provide quality medical education in super-specialty disciplines, and promote healthcare inclusion in underserved areas."

Once operational, AIIMS-Rewari is expected to serve not only the citizens of Haryana but also those from neighboring states including Rajasthan, Delhi, and Uttar Pradesh. Its provision of affordable tertiary healthcare facilities is poised to significantly enhance healthcare accessibility and quality in the region.

Construction work, including the boundary wall, is progressing steadily, with the project scheduled for completion by December 2026.

AIIMS’s Recent Series of Developments

In recent updates, AIIMS New Delhi introduced the AIIMS-SBI Smart Payment Card to simplify payment procedures for patients. Union Minister for Health & Family Welfare, Dr Mansukh Mandaviya, launched this card to alleviate the burden of carrying cash for treatment, particularly for patients from remote areas. The card, linked to the patient’s Unique Hospital Identification (UHID) number and Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA) ID, will be issued free of cost upon admission, streamlining payment processes at various hospital counters.

Additionally, AIIMS Delhi partnered with the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (CDAC) Pune to unveil iOncology.ai, an AI-based platform for cancer diagnosis. This platform claims early cancer detection, a critical step in improving patient outcomes.

In another similar development, Dr Mandaviya recently laid the foundation stone for 68 health services at AIIMS Jodhpur and inaugurated 24 health facilities across multiple AIIMS locations. These efforts underscore AIIMS' commitment to innovation and accessibility in healthcare delivery, striving towards a healthier and more resilient India.
