Merative plans to enhance its footprint in India by recruiting local specialists skilled in data analysis, machine learning, clinical research workflows, and the validation of medical device software.

Merative, the US-based data and analytics company, has inaugurated three Global Capability and Innovation Centres (GCICs) across Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Chennai. This strategic move aims to tap into India's rich talent pool and actively engage with the burgeoning health tech ecosystem in the country.

Gerry McCarthy, the chief executive officer of Merative, expressed the company's commitment to substantial growth in both the workforce and capabilities to further its global initiatives.

While McCarthy did not disclose specific numbers, the company, which serves over 4,500 clients worldwide, employs around 3,000 full-time staff globally.

Formerly known as IBM Watson Health, Merative is set to strengthen its presence in India by onboarding local experts in data analysis, machine learning, clinical research workflows, and medical device software validation.

The company also intends to recruit professionals well-versed in versatile technologies, including cloud computing, DevOps, cloud infrastructure support, and enterprise applications.

McCarthy said, "We are entering a new phase with our Merative India GCIC. Our Indian team members have been integral to Merative's journey, and this transition fortifies and unites our global workforce, making Merative whole. We remain committed to collaborating with our clients worldwide to lead the digital transformation of healthcare and social care."

Merative identifies India not only as a rich source of top-tier resources but also as a potential market.

McCarthy said, "We perceive India as not only an exceptional resource hub but also as a potential market for our future growth." Presently, the company serves approximately 20 clients in India.

According to Nasscom, India hosts a remarkable 1,580 unique Global Capability and Innovation Centres (GCCs), constituting more than 45% of the world's total GCC count and around 70% of all US-based GCCs.

The rapid establishment of GCCs across India underscores the evolving perception of these centres from mere cost-effective units to strategic and innovative technology hubs of excellence.

Merative's India GCIC is poised to function as a global centre of excellence, with a specific focus on product engineering, innovation, support, and services for six essential products within its portfolio: Cúram, Health Insights, MarketScan, Merge, Micromedex, and Zelta.

This expansion not only reinforces Merative's commitment to transforming healthcare but also underscores India's rising stature as a hub for cutting-edge technological innovation.

The launch of these GCICs is expected to foster collaboration, innovation, and advancement within the health-tech domain, aligning with the broader digital transformation journey of the industry.

Established in 2015 under the name IBM Watson Health, Merative has emerged as a pivotal player in the global health sector, functioning as a data, analytics, and technology collaborator for various stakeholders such as healthcare providers, payers, life sciences enterprises, and governmental bodies.

The company's core mission involves assisting clients in aligning information and insights with the well-being of the individuals they serve, ultimately enhancing healthcare delivery, informed decision-making, and overall performance.
