In a move to enhance the country’s healthcare ecosystem, PM Narendra Modi has inaugurated the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) campus in Jammu, today.

The institute, a significant addition to the healthcare infrastructure in the region, aims to provide comprehensive and high-quality tertiary care health services to the people of Jammu & Kashmir.

With an investment of over INR 1,660 Cr and spread across 227 acres, the institute has state-of-the-art facilities to cater to the region's healthcare needs.

"In a step that will provide comprehensive, quality, and holistic tertiary care health services to the people of Jammu and Kashmir, the Prime Minister will inaugurate All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Vijaypur (Samba), Jammu," PMO said.

What the New AIIMS Will Offer

AIIMS Jammu is expected to offer high-quality patient care services across 18 specialties and 17 super specialties. These include crucial areas such as cardiology, gastroenterology, nephrology, urology, neurology, neurosurgery, medical oncology, surgical oncology, endocrinology, burns, and plastic surgery.

The institute is well-equipped with an intensive care unit, emergency & trauma unit, 20 modular operation theaters, diagnostic laboratories, blood bank, and pharmacy, ensuring comprehensive healthcare delivery to the region's people.

Further, the hospital boasts a capacity of 720 beds, a medical college with 125 seats, a nursing college with 60 seats, and an AYUSH Block with 30 beds.

Additionally, the campus features residential accommodation for faculty and staff, hostel facilities for undergraduate and postgraduate students, a night shelter, a guest house, an auditorium, and a shopping complex.

Nationwide Healthcare Initiatives

PM Modi's visit to Jammu today also witnessed the inauguration and dedication of multiple development projects worth over INR 30,500 Cr. These projects span various sectors, including health, education, rail, road, aviation, petroleum, and civic infrastructure.

During the event at the Maulana Azad Stadium, Jammu, PM Modi distributed appointment orders to approximately 1500 new government recruits of J&K. Additionally, the PM interacted with beneficiaries of various government schemes as part of the 'Viksit Bharat Viksit Jammu' program.

Expansion of the Healthcare Ecosystem

The inauguration of AIIMS Jammu is part of a broader initiative to enhance the healthcare ecosystem in the country. Recently, PM Modi laid the foundation stone of a new AIIMS in Rewari, Haryana, as part of a series of inaugurations and dedications of AIIMS hospitals across various states.

Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya highlighted the significant investment made by the government in healthcare infrastructure. He mentioned that till 2014, the nation had six AIIMS in seven decades, and within the next ten days, seven AIIMS hospitals would be inaugurated across the country.

Established under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY), AIIMS-Rewari aims to deliver comprehensive, high-quality tertiary-care health services to the people of Haryana.

AIIMS’s Recent Series of Developments

In recent updates, AIIMS New Delhi introduced the AIIMS-SBI Smart Payment Card to simplify patient payment procedures. Union Minister for Health & Family Welfare, Dr Mansukh Mandaviya, launched this card to alleviate the burden of carrying cash for treatment, particularly for patients from remote areas. The card, linked to the patient’s Unique Hospital Identification (UHID) number and Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA) ID, is issued free of cost upon admission, streamlining payment processes at various hospital counters.

Additionally, AIIMS Delhi partnered with the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (CDAC) Pune to unveil iOncology.ai, an AI-based platform for cancer diagnosis. This platform claims early cancer detection, a critical step in improving patient outcomes.

In another similar development, Dr Mandaviya recently laid the foundation stone for 68 health services at AIIMS Jodhpur and inaugurated 24 health facilities across multiple AIIMS locations.
