Further, the partnership also aims to facilitate transfer of technology, propelling clinical research and advancing medical practices. The ultimate goal is to establish AI, Machine Intelligence, clinical genomics and precision medicine as the new healthcare standards.

The University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) in alliance with Genome International, USA is looking at forging healthcare partnerships in Tamil Nadu for the integration of AI and genomics in healthcare.

In line with this a discussion was recently held with hospitals in Chennai at the IIT-Madras coinciding with the visit of Robert Jones, chancellor, UIUC. The partnership seeks to integrate Al and genomics into healthcare.

Reportedly, Genome International was already in a partnership with the University of Illinois. However, the recent deliberation explored potential collaborations with hospitals in Tamil Nadu, fostering the creation of innovative tools and technologies that leverage Al and genomics for clinical translation.

Further, the partnership also aims to facilitate transfer of technology, propelling clinical research and advancing medical practices. The ultimate goal is to establish AI, Machine Intelligence, clinical genomics and precision medicine as the new healthcare standards.

Founded in 1867, the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) is a public land-grant research university located in the twin cities of Champaign and Urbana, Illinois. The institution’s objective is to transform lives and serve society by educating, creating knowledge, and putting knowledge to work on a large scale and with excellence.

Further, the university aims to be a recognised leader among public research university systems in teaching and scholarship, research and discovery, engagement and public service, economic vitality, healthcare, arts and culture, global reach, and athletics.

Genome International Corporation, on the other hand, based in Madison, Wisconsin, United States, is a research-driven firm that provides bioinformatics products and custom research solutions. The company offers services such as sequencing, custom database development, contract research, and IT consulting.

The aim of Genome International is to provide advanced cloud-based products and sequencing services to accelerate discovery in the field of genomic medicine. Founded in 1992, they are pioneers in genomics and their work contributes to the prevention, management, and treatment of diseases.

With the growing relevance of Genomics in healthcare, many institutions are adopting this to keep up with the modern needs of the field. For instance, The IIT-Madras established one-of-a-kind "Centre of Excellence on Cancer Genomics and Molecular Therapeutics" focused on researching and developing biomarkers for the early detection of pancreatic cancer.

The data generated by this centre will contribute to creating an India-specific cancer genome database, crucial for identifying and developing early detection biomarkers and understanding drug responses. Additionally, this data may aid in identifying potential drug targets for innovative therapeutics.
