The President also reflected on the several changes that the healthcare field is witnessing due to the integration of life sciences and modern technology. She further urged ILBS to continue to work in the field of research along with providing healthcare treatment.

In a recently held event, President Droupadi Murmu said India is becoming an international healthcare hub on the strength of institutions like ILBS by providing world-class health services at relatively low cost.

During her address at the ninth convocation of the Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences, President mentioned that ILBS has carved its niche in a span of only 13 years on the strength of world-class efficiency and integrity. She highlighted that more than 1,000 liver transplants and approximately 300 renal transplants have been performed at ILBS.

The President also reflected on the several changes that the healthcare field is witnessing due to the integration of life sciences and modern technology. She further urged ILBS to continue to work in the field of research along with providing healthcare treatment.

Focus on Preventive Healthcare

The President said, “There is a need to pay more attention to preventive healthcare. Health problems related to the liver are serious in our country and the huge number of diseases caused by them is a cause for worry. ILBS is expected to make a significant contribution to the prevention of liver diseases.”

Moreover, she addressed the issue of the non-availability of a sufficient number of organs, as a result of which many patients are deprived of liver, kidney or any other transplant treatment.

“Unfortunately, unethical practices related to organ donation also come to light from time to time. It is the responsibility of an aware society to solve these problems. In our country, there is a need to organise more and more awareness campaigns on a larger scale to encourage people about organ donation,” Murmu added.

Advising doctors to take care of themselves, the President emphasised the challenges like long duty hours, continuous emergency cases and night duties, they have to continuously serve the patients with full alertness and enthusiasm.

In September this year, President Murmu inaugurated the ‘Ayushman Bhavah’ Campaign for nationwide healthcare coverage. The campaign is a collaborative effort led by Gram Panchayats in partnership with the Department of Health, other governmental departments, and local elected bodies in both rural and urban areas. The primary objective of the Ayushman Bhavah campaign is to transcend geographical barriers and ensure that no one is left without healthcare access.
