DGP Chennai Launches Mobile Wellness Unit ‘WOW’ for City Police

As per the scheme, the mobile unit along with 15 medical teams from Neuberg Diagnostics Centre will visit all police quarters in Chennai city and conduct health check-ups from November 14 to December 1.

The Director General of Police (DGP) has launched a mobile wellness unit called "Wellness on Wheels (WOW) in Chennai, specifically designed to conduct diabetic checkup camps for police families. This initiative aims to provide comprehensive health checkups for city police personnel and their relatives.

The "Wellness on Wheels" program encompasses diabetic checkups as a key service and is equipped to offer a range of healthcare services, ensuring accessibility to necessary medical care for police personnel and their families.

As per the scheme, the mobile unit along with 15 medical teams from Neuberg Diagnostics Centre will visit all police quarters in Chennai city and conduct health check-ups from November 14 to December 1.

The newly launched mobile unit is equipped with diagnostic tools such as ECG, X-ray, pulmonary function tests, audiometry exams, eye checks, blood sample collection and doctor’s consultations.

Moreover, it will also have audiometry test kits, an eye testing facility, blood sample collection units along a 25-feet length wellness centre. Additionally, an on-board mini-power generator and inverter have been installed to work even when the vehicle is turned off.

“This is the first time the police department has taken steps to conduct a detailed diabetic checkup for the police personnel and their families,” said DGP Shankar Jiwal.

The initiative will cover over 15,000 police personnel residing in quarters across Mylapore, Thousand Lights, Egmore, Pudupet, Kondithope, Tondiarpet, Royapuram, Sembium, Anna Nagar, Shenoy Nagar, Kilpauk, St Thomas Mount, and Alandur.

Those participating in the tests will undergo assessments for height, weight, body mass index (BMI), blood sugar levels, eye tests, and other relevant health parameters

Earlier, Aster Volunteers launched a mobile medical service in Kerala and Tamil Nadu. The initiative entails deploying mobile medical units equipped with advanced facilities, including diagnostic and medical testing capabilities, consultations, and first-aid treatments.

Additionally, the units are integrated with an advanced Tele-Health System, leveraging technology to extend medical services beyond physical boundaries, enabling healthcare access for marginalised communities

In another instance, Panasonic Life Solutions India launched a mobile medical unit in Thane, Mumbai to serve the underserved population. The unit delivers essential outpatient care, including blood and sugar tests. Moreover, it will offer vital generic drug support for common ailments such as fever, cough, cold, viral infections, and dermatological issues.
