The project will develop medical solutions, such as using heart simulations as digital proof to gain approval for new cardiovascular devices.

Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has recently partnered with the Living Heart Project, an initiative led by Dassault Systemes, to create accurate digital models of the human heart.'

By leveraging their domain expertise and the TCS Digital BioTwin, a biophysics-based computational model, TCS aims to contribute to refining, simulating, and implementing personalised digital human heart models.

The Living Heart Project brings together a diverse ecosystem of cardiovascular researchers, educators, medical device developers, regulatory agencies, and cardiologists to develop and validate realistic digital simulations of the human heart.'¯

The project aims to leverage these simulations as a source of digital evidence for new cardiovascular device approvals. By designing and testing medical devices in the virtual world, the project seeks to enhance patient safety and accelerate the pace of innovation in the field.

"By joining forces, we believe we can accelerate the pace of innovation and make significant strides towards our goal of creating and delivering personalised in-silico medical solutions," said Steve Levine, senior director, Virtual Human Modeling and founder of The Living Heart Project.

TCS Digital BioTwin: A High-Fidelity Computational Model

At the heart of TCS's contribution to the Living Heart Project is the TCS Digital BioTwin. This computational model, developed by TCS researchers, enables the remote and non-invasive investigation of the function of the human heart.'¯

It leverages biophysics-based principles to create a high-fidelity representation of the organ, providing valuable insights into its behaviour and enabling the development of personalised treatments.

Advantages of Digital Heart Models

The development of accurate digital human heart models offers several advantages for the medical and pharmaceutical sectors.'¯

Medical devices can be designed and tested in the virtual world using these models, reducing the need for extensive real-world testing.'¯

This not only speeds up the development process but also ensures the safety and efficacy of these devices. Additionally, digital heart models can provide valuable insights into cardiac function, leading to the discovery of novel treatments and improved patient care.

TCS's extensive expertise in building digital bio-twins for various organs and body parts positions them well to contribute significantly to the Living Heart Project.'¯

Their previous work in this area has showcased their ability to create accurate and detailed computational models that closely mimic the behaviour of the human body.'¯

By combining their knowledge in biophysics and technology, TCS can aid in the development of precise digital human heart models that can enhance our understanding of cardiac function.

In another development, TCS unveiled a partnership with the prominent US-based medical technology leader, GE Healthcare, in July this year. Through this collaboration with TCS, GE Healthcare reflected its objectives, which include responding to changing patient requirements, fostering research in medical technology, and advancing innovative healthcare solutions.
