Karkinos Healthcare to advance cancer research and testing, using SOPHiA DDM Platform for blood cancers & tumours in lower income countries.

Switzerland-based SOPHiA GENETICS, a cloud-based software firm in data-driven medicine, has joined forces with Karkinos Healthcare, a cancer care technology network in India to advance cancer research in India.

As per the partnership deal, Karkinos Healthcare will utilise SOPHiA GENETICS's SOPHiA DDM Platform to advance cancer testing and research for blood cancers and solid tumours, with a particular focus on underserved areas in low and middle-income countries.

Utilising patented algorithms, the platform performs tasks such as calling, annotating, and pre-classifying variants from raw NGS data, streamlining prioritisation, simplifying interpretation, and expediting the reporting process.

Sharing thoughts, Dr Jurgi Camblong, CEO & cofounder, SOPHiA GENETICS, said, "Our ongoing objective is to enhance global health outcomes by broadening access to precision oncology and providing local health institutions with the necessary tools for practising data-driven medicine. Through this alignment with Karkinos, who shares our mutual goal, we aim to promote the utilisation of top-tier cancer testing in rural and underserved communities worldwide."

SOPHiA Genetics’s Power Platform SOPHiA DDM

Founded in 2011 by Jurgi Camblong, Pierre Hutter & Lars Steinmetz, Sophia Genetics is a data-driven medicine software company headquartered in Lausanne, Switzerland, and Boston, Massachusetts. It specialises in genomic and radionic analysis.

The company’s popular ML-powered platform SOPHiA DDM is specifically designed to support researchers and healthcare professionals in the comprehensive analysis and interpretation of genomic data obtained from next-generation sequencing (NGS) experiments.

SOPHiA DDM is actively utilised in numerous labs worldwide, adept at compiling extensive sets of diverse medical data from various sources. Its adaptability enables the analysis of high-throughput genomic data in laboratories, featuring end-to-end workflows tailored to specific experimental requirements.

Dr R Venkataramanan, founder & CEO, Karkinos Healthcare, emphasises the organisation's commitment to joint research initiatives for identifying genomic landscapes in the Indian population.

With a focus on precision medicine, this partnership aims to produce significant evidence and contribute to advanced research. The main goal is to improve and streamline cancer diagnosis processes and overall management, with a special focus on addressing the healthcare needs of the underprivileged population in the country.

Revolutionising Cancer Research & Developments

Recently, SOPHiA GENETICS has partnered with Exactis Innovation, a non-profit network based in Montreal, dedicated to improving cancer survivorship through data-driven decision-making. The collaboration aimed to enhance Canadian cancer research with global insights.

Exactis has implemented SOPHiA GENETICS' leading cancer testing solutions, including MSK-ACCESS and MSK-IMPACT, powered by SOPHiA DDM and HRD testing, to boost next-generation sequencing (NGS) testing and tumour profiling. The collaboration aligns with SOPHiA GENETICS' goal of advancing global health outcomes through technology-driven, data-centric medicine.

SOPHiA GENETICS offers cutting-edge services to hospitals, laboratories, and biopharma institutions globally. At the forefront of its offerings is the SOPHiA DDM™ Platform, a cloud-native solution renowned for its capacity to analyse complex multimodal datasets and diverse diagnostic modalities.

In a similar development, in August, last year, Karkinos Healthcare collaborated with KSSSCI & IIT Kanpur to establish the 'Centre for Advanced Molecular Diagnostics and Research for Cancer (CAMDRC)' in Lucknow. This initiative aimed to enhance cancer care through personalised treatments based on genetic insights. The CAMDRC Lab featured high-throughput Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) machines in a spacious 25,000-square-foot area, symbolising a shift towards molecular diagnostics in cancer care.

Established in 2020 Karkinos Healthcare operates as a purpose-driven, technology-led oncology healthcare platform. Specialising in the early detection and diagnosis of common cancers, the organisation is committed to a distributed cancer care network model.

Collaborating with healthcare institutions and domain experts, Karkinos aims to provide comprehensive cancer care closer to individuals' homes. The company's services encompass cancer screening, diagnosis, treatment, and more. With a mission to enhance accessibility, Karkinos Healthcare plays a crucial role in advancing cancer care in India.
