Supriya Lifescience, a Mumbai-based pharmaceutical company, has joined hands with the Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) to create a cost-effective oral cancer detection kit known as "Quickblue."

Dr Satish Wagh, chairman of Supriya Lifescience, expressed conviction about the Quickblue oral kit's potential to significantly lower the cost of oral cancer detection.

He said, "The high prevalence of oral cancer, with millions of cases reported globally, underscores the importance of early detection. This product is particularly relevant in India and the Asian sub-continent, where many oral cancer patients are found."

The Quickblue oral kit's development aligns with Supriya Lifescience's vision of creating niche medical products to address unmet healthcare needs.

Commenting on the same, Dr Mrutyunjay Suar, director general of R&D and innovation at Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) University, said, "Our research groups of scholars and faculty members worked relentlessly with the expert team of Supriya Lifescience to develop this product. We believe this product can be a lifesaver by enabling early detection of oral cancer."

Supriya Lifescience, established in 1987, is a well-known player in the API manufacturing industry. With a focus on various therapeutic segments, they have a presence in producing products such as Anti-Histamine, Anti-Allergics, Vitamins, Anaesthetics, and Anti-Asthmatics. The company claims to boast strong research and development capabilities and worldwide compliant facilities.

In related developments, the International Institute of Information Technology (IIIT-Hyderabad) and INAI, an applied AI research center, have partnered to unveil an AI-powered smartphone approach to the early screening of oral cancer.

This model leverages the capabilities of AI and smartphones to detect abnormal lesions before they become malignant conditions.
