Healthtech Startup Taurean Surgical Bags Pre-Seed Funding to Expand Access to Robotic Surgery

The startup secured this pre-seed funding round from 'Beyond Tech VC' in Oman, Indian investor Durga Devi Maganti, and notable US investors. With increased resources, the startup plans to improve its AI-powered surgical microscope and facilitate its path to market readiness. 


Indian healthtech startup Taurean Surgical has secured an undisclosed pre-seed funding from Oman-based 'Beyond Tech VC,' Indian investor Durga Devi Maganti, and distinguished investors from the USA 

This funding will be utilised to democratise access to robotic surgery in emerging markets.'¯ 

Further, as per the startup, by leveraging cutting-edge medical technology and artificial intelligence (AI), it aims to bridge the gap between advanced surgical solutions and underserved regions. 

Dr Rahul Kumar, founder and CEO of Taurean Surgical, said, "We envision a future where every surgeon, regardless of their geographical location, can leverage the advantages of robotic surgery to provide optimal patient outcomes. Indian investor Durga Devi Maganti noted that investing in Taurean Surgical is a strategic decision with the potential to reshape healthcare landscapes. She recognises the dedication of the startup to enhancing surgical capabilities in underserved regions and believes in the transformative power of its mission. 

The startup said that its state-of-the-art robot-assisted 3D surgical microscope combines AI-based algorithms, computer vision, machine learning, and augmented reality to elevate surgical precision and visualisation.'¯ 

The integration of these advanced technologies enables surgeons to make more informed decisions during complex procedures, ultimately leading to improved patient outcomes. 

Taurean Surgical, established in 2019 by Dr Rahul Kumar and Dr Sunil Manjila, is a medical device development company focused on the creation, patenting, and marketing of innovative medical devices within the surgical robotics sector. Their primary areas of emphasis include neurosurgery and otorhinolaryngology. 

Funding in healthtech segment has been sluggish lately. However, yet recently Bengaluru-based digital healthcare startup MediBuddy secured an additional $18 million funding from its existing investors, including Quadria Capital, Lightrock, and TEAMFund. Earlier in February 2022, this healthtech startup had raised a substantial $125 million during its Series-C funding round. 

Another startup in this segment, LISSUN, a Gurugram-based mental health platform, secured $1.3 million in a seed funding round led by Inflection Point Ventures (IPV) and Rainmatter Capital from the Zerodha Group. To date, LISSUN has raised over $2.3 million in funding, according to a company statement. 

In another development, MrMed, an online pharmacy startup headquartered in Chennai, had secured a substantial funding amount of $500,000 from the Tamil Nadu Emerging Sector Seed Fund (TNESSF).
