US-based Equip Health, an evidence-based virtual eating disorder treatment provider, has expanded its services to include adults.

This move aims to address a crucial gap in the healthcare landscape, ensuring that more individuals grappling with eating disorders can access essential care.

The initiative is backed by a recent investment from General Catalyst, a key early investor in Equip. It will fuel the company's expansion and its mission to provide care to all those in need of eating disorder treatment.

Dr Erin Parks, chief clinical officer and cofounder of Equip, said, "Eating disorders do not discriminate based on age, gender, socioeconomic status, or body size.'

"By broadening our treatment to include adults, we are extending hope to every person struggling with an eating disorder, offering them the possibility of rediscovering a more meaningful life beyond their illness,' she added.

Earlier this year, Equip released its first Annual Outcomes Report, revealing promising outcomes. Patients experienced a significant reduction of at least 50% in their symptoms within the first five months of treatment.

Furthermore, 94% of Equip patients had their treatment covered by insurance, made possible through strategic collaborations with major commercial insurance plans and Medicaid. Currently, Equip offers treatment across all 50 US states, including those lacking in-person treatment centres.

Founded in 2019, Equip Health offers virtual, evidence-based eating disorder treatment program, dedicated to ensuring that anyone with an eating disorder can access effective treatment.

Their approach, developed by clinical experts and those with lived experiences, builds upon evidence-based treatments, providing individuals with the necessary support to achieve lasting recovery.

The company operates nationwide and has partnered with most major health insurance plans.
