The Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) facility, granted the status of India's first Centre for Advanced Research and Excellence in Neuromodulation for Mental Health by ICMR in 2019, hosted a national training program from December 14 to 16.

In a significant move to advance knowledge in neuromodulation, the Centre for Advanced Research and Excellence in Neuromodulation at AIIMS-Delhi has initiated a training program for medical professionals.

The Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) facility, granted the status of India's first Centre for Advanced Research and Excellence in Neuromodulation for Mental Health by ICMR in 2019, hosted a national training program from December 14 to 16.

Commenting on the department’s commitment to the cause, Dr. Nand Kumar, professor-in-charge of CARE, said, "Continuing its commitment, the Department of Psychiatry, with support from ICMR, expanded its training facility from once a year to thrice annually."

The workshop, aimed at providing essential training in neuromodulation techniques, particularly TMS, was limited to 30 doctors from 14 states to ensure an optimal learning environment.

Commenting on the same, Dr Kumar highlighted the cost factor associated with TMS training. He said, "Training for neuromodulation technique TMS is very expensive, ranging from USD 2,000 to 3,000 for two to three days in Western countries. In AIIMS-Delhi, we are providing world-class TMS training and certification at just Rs 20,000 for three days."

In parallel developments, Chhattisgarh-based mental healthtech startup BetterSpace secured  $ 4.5 million in its maiden Pre-Seed funding round, focusing on improving existing services and developing a new product range.

Additionally, the National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences (NIMHANS) collaborated with the University of Liverpool, supported by a substantial £1.5 million fund from Pratiksha Trust.

This initiative aims to expedite research in mental health and neurosciences, addressing critical issues such as Japanese Encephalitis and neurocysticercosis, a severe brain infection.
